SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 4, 2012--
Keynote®
Systems (NASDAQ:KEYN), the
global leader in Internet and mobile cloud testing & monitoring,
today announced the availability of Keynote
Transaction Perspective® 11 and MyKeynote®
11. The new version of the industry’s leading on-demand site
monitoring service (Transaction Perspective) for Web performance, now
includes three new User Experience metrics leveraging the capabilities
of Internet Explorer 9. In addition, this release features nine new
Browser Event metrics using the specifications of the W3C
Navigation Timing standard. By presenting this information in the
redesigned MyKeynote monitoring portal for Web and mobile sites, Keynote
brings enterprise IT operations new insights into the performance of all
key phases throughout a Web page’s lifecycle.
The new User Experience metrics offered in Keynote Transaction
Perspective 11 are:
-
Time to First Paint, the moment when on-screen rendering begins, which
is the critical first step telling the user that the site is
responding to their action;
-
Time to Full Screen, the moment when the user's browser or screen has
completely drawn the page, even if additional rendering below the fold
continues;
-
Time to Interactive Page, indicating when a user can click or swipe on
content in a page; and
-
Nine Browser Event metrics based on the W3C Navigation Timing standard
that provide more granular detail about milestones during the
browser’s construction of a page, such as Unload, DOM Interactive and
DOM Content Loaded.
Measuring all these key milestones in a Web page’s delivery is growing
in importance because recent
research from Microsoft claims that 250 milliseconds—a mere eye
blink—can make the difference between a repeat visitor and a lost
customer.
A single page-load metric is not precise enough to represent how a
customer experiences a Web page. The perception of how quickly a page
loads can be quite different from the reality of how it is technically
fully loaded.
As an example, two different sites, each with a page load time of five
seconds, would initially appear to offer identical “performance,” but in
reality may offer very different user experiences. From a user’s
perspective if one site begins to deliver content in half a second and
the other site doesn’t deliver any content until two seconds pass, the
user’s perception of that site is going to be completely different. The
user receiving initial content in half a second is going to be much more
satisfied than the user who sees nothing until two seconds have elapsed.
When users click, they expect to see something happening almost
immediately; they want to know the site is responding. The visual cue of
seeing something begin to render on the page, as long as it doesn’t take
forever to finish, may be enough to hold on to that user. A page load
time of four, five or more seconds may be acceptable, if the user sees
enough activity happening earlier on.
“The launch of Keynote Transaction Perspective 11 is an important
development in the world of Website monitoring because as competition in
customer expectations grow, online businesses are finding new ways to
deliver more content and interactivity. And as a result, the overall
page load time of Web pages has increased,” said Vik Chaudhary, vice
president of product management and corporate development at Keynote.
“But businesses are finding new ways to make Web pages feel faster to
customers. That perception of performance, or user experience, is
critical for businesses to monitor closely and now requires measuring
much more than total page speed. They must measure user experience from
start to finish.”
“Websites delivering good content is not enough, delivering great end
user performance is the key to business success,” commented Milind
Govekar, managing vice president at Gartner, Inc. “By focusing on end
user performance and experience, IT Operations can better align their
services with the business requirements, especially when it comes to
growing their business and retaining customers. Thus IT Operations have
to use innovative technology and services that are able to give them
accurate and and verifiable data to manage end user experience.”
Product Background

Internet Explorer 9—captures user experience metrics that measure how
customers perceive the speed of a Web page throughout its entire browser
lifecycle.
